Find myself being jealous of all the drawing my children do, and frequently judging the drawings I make. Here is what I know to do instead: keep drawing, keep doing the things I like, learn new (and old) things from others, and let go of the judgements. Quantity eventually leads to quality.

I tend to stay so focused on what needs doing, and in what ways I am not meeting my own expectations, that I forget to look back at all I’ve accomplished.
Today my YouTube shuffle played a video of an interview I did several years ago for the Abundant Artist website. They mention that I (along with another artist) was picked out of several hundred who applied to be in the video. I had completely forgotten, and I’m pretty sure I didn’t celebrate it at the time (or, not much). I was happy to hear it today, and to congratulate myself on continuing to pursue the things that make me happy.

Reading “Syllabus” by Lynda Barry and it is inspiring us to draw more, and in ways we haven’t tried before. Here’s a collaborative, quick drawing exercise. We each took turns writing character names, then had one minute each to draw a character, then pass the paper to the next person. When all the characters were filled in, we took time inking one page each.

I heard this phrase in a podcast and it really struck me that this is at the heart of why I struggle sometimes. Resistance to my emotions. I am getting so much better at recognizing when it’s happening, and although I don’t always choose the best way to handle it, I almost always see the choices in front of me. I think just seeing I have choice is a huge step in living the life I want. Now to practice allowing the feelings, and then choosing the responses that will serve me.

The ups and downs:
Keeping habits, then throwing them all out the window in a day.
Feeling like I’ve got my shit together, then coming down with a serious case of the not-enoughs.
Knowing life is uncertain, and who knows how long, gives me the freedom to be who I want to be. And then I wonder why it even matters.
Tomorrow is another day.
Reboot.
