My kids are crafty. They knit, they crochet, and they sew, but when they were younger, they would finger knit. What do you do with a huge ball of finger knitting? This may not keep you up at night (yeah, me neither) but at last I found the perfect thing to do with it. I tried making it into a rug before, but crochet, sewing, and iron-on sticky stuff (what was I thinking?) didn’t work for me. Then I came across Anne’s amazing tutorial. Weaving on a hula hoop! Why didn’t I think of that?? Please check out Anne’s blog – her photos are informative and beautiful, too!
Brilliant! I may have to try this! Thanks Belinda.
Yippee!!! Belinda, it looks awesome! congratulations!
I love it! Well done 🙂
That’s totally cool. Now I just need an excess of finger knitting so we can do this some day. Oh and find out what finger knitting is…. how young can you be to do it? Olivia pretends she is knitting all the time using crochet needles and her blanket or stuffing or pretty much anything she can get her hands on. She’s dying to learn to sew or knit or crochet or well pretty much anything… but she’s not even three yet.
Heather, you can totally teach finger knitting now! It’s very easy to learn. There are plenty of good videos online to show you how to do it. Cy learned how to knit (I did not push it, I swear!!) when he was four, and he was fingerknitting for a long time before that. If she wants to sew, you should get her to draw a picture on cardboard of a teddy or something, then cut it out and punch out holes along the edge. Then give her a shoelace and she can sew all she likes!
My kind of knitting. Very cool. Thanks for sharing Anne’s amazing idea.

thanks, the newest round of finger knitting has already started in my house (summer break hasn’t even started yet) and I was just wondering what the heck am I going to do with it all. This could be an epic year.
do you take the hula hoop out at the end?
If I remember correctly, when you are done weaving, you cut the ends and then tie them. So yes, the hula hoop comes out. Check out Anne’s blog for full instructions (I’ve linked to it in this post).
Brlla alfombra! 🙂
